Madurai Balasubramanian, learnt Violin, initially under Sri Ramaswamy Iyengar, and Kollongode Sri. Sundaram Iyer. Mr. Balu, had his Arangetram at the age of 13 under the guidance of his Guru Sri Sundaram Iyer at Palani Temple, Tamil Nadu.

Later he became, the disciple of Violin Maestro Dr M Chandrashekharan, since 1987. Mr. Balu is an 'A' Grade Artiste of All India Radio. He has accompanied on Violin to Senior Musicians like Maharajapuram Sri Santhanam, Dr. N. Ramani, Sri. T.V. Gopalakrishnan, Tiruvengadu Sri Jayaraman, Madurai Sri G. S. Mani, also Sri Rajkumar Bharathi, Dr. Ganesh, Sri Balaji Shankar and to many artistes of the present generation. Mr. Balu is the Aasthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Mutt and has received titles 'Naadha Kala Nipuna', 'Isai Chemmal' 'Sugha Gana Nadha Jothi'. Mr. Balu also received Honorary Doctorate two years back (for his contribution towards Carnatic Music as a Violinist). He has gone on concert tour to countries like, Malaysia, Singapore, Columbo, U.S.A, U.K, Canada, Australia, Dubai, Abudhabi, Kuwait, Behrain, Muscat, Kenya, Mauratius, and Japan.

Mr. Balu is involved in construction (renovation)of (dilapidated condition) old temples in Tamil Nadu under the caption, 'IRAI ISAI PAYANAM' for the past 15 years.  His team visits to houses/halls( India and Abroad) will perform - the entire proceeds goes for this noble cause. Nearly 10 Kumbabeshegam done with approach of fundraising to save the tradition and cultural venues.

He will be accompanied on  Mirudangam by  Chidambaram Dr. S Balashankar and on Ghatam by  Nanganallur Sri S. Swaminathan
